Stallion Springs Police Department Launches Citizen Volunteer Group

The Stallion Springs Police Department announces the formation of a citizen volunteer group. This volunteer group, called the Citizen Service Unit (C.S.U.), is modeled after other volunteer groups operated by most law enforcement agencies in Kern County and across the nation. The founding group is comprised of six members from the local community in Stallion Springs. Each member was chosen after completing a selection process conducted by the Police Department. Members then attended the Kern County Sheriff's Office's C.S.U. Academy, and then received additional training from officers at the Police Department regarding local issues and duties specific to Stallion Springs.

C.S.U. members are required to purchase their own uniforms, and are not compensated for any work they perform for the Police Department. C.S.U. members will perform a variety of duties and assignments for the Department, some of which are administrative in nature. This will allow the officers to focus more on law enforcement and less on paperwork at the office. C.S.U. can assist with traffic control at special events in the community, help when disasters strike, and any other event where the officers need assistance in performing their duties. One of the most important duties of the C.S.U. will be patrolling in the community of Stallion Springs, doing vacation house checks, and being the "Eyes and ears" of the Department. Although C.S.U. members are not peace officers, and cannot take any enforcement action, they can report criminal or suspicious activity directly to the officers, who can then respond and take appropriate action.

The Department anticipates that the C.S.U. will be a valuable asset to the citizens of Stallion Springs, providing valuable services at no cost to the community.
