What's Up in Stallion Springs

Elizabeth Block, Water Conservation Coordinator for the Tehachapi Cummings Water District gave a presentation on the Greater Tehachapi Toilet Rebate Program at the CSD, July 15 Board meeting. Block noted that a rebate of up to $150 for changing out old toilets to newer water saving models. The newer toilets use 1.28 gallons or less per flush saving over 19 gallons per day per person. Other water conservation issues, low flow shower heads, fixing leaks, reducing shower time, etc., were also reviewed that could help save up to 196 gallons per day per person. Applications for the program are available at the CSD offices or by calling the Water District office.

General Manager Mary Beth Garrison announced the awarding of a contract to Kern Asphalt Paving and Sealing Inc. in the amount of $407,681 for street repair and asphalt overlay of Stallion Springs Drive from Crofun Street to the bridge. Work will start in early August and is scheduled to be completed by Aug. 31.

Garrison also presented a water shortage contingency plan that has been adopted in advance of an actual or threatened water shortage to reduce consumption and reserve a sufficient supply of water for public health and safty. The plan provides for actions based on four stages, Moderate water shortage, Severe water shortage, Critical water shortage and Urgent water shortage. Currently, the district is asking residents to voluntarily reduce water usage by 20 percent but no mandatory restrictions have been put in place. She also noted the grass to concrete water conversation project in front of the CSD to help conserve water.

Parks and Recreation

The pool is open and usage is up. P-Dubs has been sponsoring a free swim day on Tuesday afternoons during the current heat wave.

The pool has been upgraded with new commercial grade filters, a storage shed to separate guard lockers from pool chemicals and the new solar shades are up.

Wednesday, Aug. 20 – Grimmway Farms will present a workshop for CERT members related to the chemicals used on the local farms.

Saturday, September 13 – The GranFondo bicycle ride will be passing through Stallion Springs.
