'Tehachapi Fix Your Pet'

Registrationi Nov 1 and Clinic Held Nov 8, 2014

Tehachapi – Have a Heart Humane Society will be hosting their 9th low cost spay & neuter clinic on Saturday, Nov. 8, 2014. The organization is partnering with Tehachapi Valley Parks and Recreation, who is making the West Park Activity Center on “D” Street available to house pets, before and after surgery.

This clinic is being funded by a private donation (not taxpayer money) from New York Times Best-Selling Author Fern Michaels, a true animal lover. Michaels has authored more than 100 novels and visited Tehachapi some years ago for a book signing to promote Heartbreak Ranch (set in Caliente), an anthology of romance stories that included Chelley Kitzmiller, Have a Heart’s president.

The clinic is open to all Tehachapi residents regardless of income. Reservations will be taken in person in front of the vacant Books & Crannies store at 1121 W. Valley Blvd. Ste. B at 11 a.m. on Nov. 1, 2014. Proof of Tehachapi residency is required. Pet owners will pay a co-pay of $25 for dogs, and $20 for cats. Cash only.

Because we must fill this clinic to capacity (40 animals) to be efficient and economical, there will be no refunds for no-shows or cancellations.

Dr. Willis of the San Joaquin Vet Hospital in Bakersfield, who is also a new Tehachapi property owner, will be doing the surgeries. Co-pays will include a Rabies vaccination and a pain injection. Other vaccinations for surgery pets will be available at regular prices, as well as microchips for just $10 each. Dr. Willis has asked us to put a limit on the number of large female dogs, and females in general as they take longer. Because of time constraints in the mobile clinic environment, we will not accept seriously overweight pets, crypt orchids (pets whose testicles have not descended), pets over seven years old, or pets in heat.

Since we do not have a paid staff or the volunteer base to answer emails or phone calls regarding this clinic, we ask that pet owners bring your questions to sign-up day.
