Business Spotlight
If you have not had a chance to check out the recently opened used car, motorcycle, and RV sales lot on South Street near the Mobil Gas Station in Old Town, Tehachapi, you should plan to do so. The lot is owned and operated by the father and son team of Marlon and Brandon Ashmore. Both Ashmores have lived in Tehachapi for the past 20 years. Their business officially opened on July 7, 2014 with approximately 35 used units in inventory. "We hope to fill a void in the auto, motorcycle, and RV market," said Marlon. "We buy, sell, trade, and consign just about anything with wheels. We even had a couple of boats in inventory during the summer months."
Both father and son have experience in the automotive business, Brandon at the Bakersfield Auto Mall, and Marlon for a car lot in Bakersfield. Marlon has also worked in the RV business for seven years. They both have a passion for cars, trucks, motorcycles, and RVs, and have owned their share of them. "We are doing what we love, we are selling fun, "said Marlon. "There is nothing like hearing about a customer's RV trip up Highway 395, and about all the fish they caught, and the great family bonding time they had. We have wonderful memories of helping an excited young sixteen-year-old pick out a first car, and of helping a family that lost a loved one by buying their truck at a fair price, and of seeing pictures of a lady and her dog riding the first motorcycle we sold."
They work with the local credit unions and banks so financing is available. The customer picks out a car and then applies for a loan at the credit union or bank. The bank contacts Ashmore Motors with the approval. The customer drives off in the car, motorcycle, or RV, and Ashmore Motors receives payment in a day or two. In some cases this can happen in the same day. It's a simple process.
Ashmore Motors also handles all the DMV paperwork. "It's a great feeling knowing that with all the money generated for our local economy through the banks, the tire shops, auto parts, detail crew, paint and body, local auto repair shops and even insurance companies, maybe we have created a job or two," stated Marlon.
If you are in the market for vehicle give Ashmore Motors a shot at your business. If you need to get rid of any of the above items, perhaps they can help find your vehicle a new home.
They are closed Mondays, open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sundays from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. If you plan on visiting on a Wednesday or Thursday please call at Marlon or Brandon at (661) 823-4877 and make sure they will be open, because they sometimes attend auctions on those days.
Stop by sometime to take a look around and say, "Hi!"
