Tehachapi's Online Community News & Entertainment Guide
Susan Andreas-Bervel, Superintendent of Tehachapi Unified School District, was the guest speaker at a recent Tehachapi Kiwanis meeting. She stated the goal of TUSD is to promote college and career readiness for all students. She described Common Core as a way to ensure that students are prepared for college work and for a productive life.
Under new guidelines, learning is progressive with spiral curriculum that begins in kindergarten and continues through all grades. Focus is on critical thinking.
Testing has also changed. Questions involve real life applications and is done on computers. The district has computer labs where students take the required tests.
Kiwanis members asked questions about changes taking place. Several praised the District and appreciated the education their children received at TUSD.
Kiwanis is especially interested in helping children. Their next project is Breakfast with Santa on December 6. Breakfast will be served and photos with Santa are available. There is no charge.
Kiwanis meets at noon each Wednesday at Pacino's Italian Restaurant in Tehachapi located at 1100 W. Tehachapi Blvd. (next to Starbucks). Guests and those interested in membership are always welcome.
