Garrett speaks to Tehachapi Kiwanis

The City is like a corporation, with City Hall as the corporate headquarters, and the City Council as the Board of Directors. The customers are the residents and the business owners. Greg Garrett, Tehachapi City Manager, used this analogy as he outlined the City's success and progress at a recent Kiwanis Club meeting.

Garrett stressed how important it is that the City live up to the expectations of its customers who want an active and high quality life style. There are 9 thousand residents in the city, but with the surrounding areas and many visitors, decisions made affect many people.

The City has achieved many improvements because of grants they have obtained. They strive to make smart use of revenue and are in the admirable position of not needing to borrow funds for projects. They try to make smart use of revenue with focus on a good return for investments made.

Garrett was enthusiastic about what is happening at the airport. He said, with help from Friends of the Airport, historic hangar #1 is being restored. He urged people to visit the airport and see what is happening. During the next 4 years, it is expected at least 4 million dollars will be invested in improvements and upgrades.

Copies of the 2014 Annual Report were distributed to Kiwanis members. The report also was printed in the local newspapers. It outlined many projects the City completed during the last year.

In appreciation for Greg Garrett's presentation, a book was presented in his name to Tompkins School. Kiwanis does this because helping children is a priority with them.

Kiwanis meetings are held each Wednesday at noon at Pacino's Restaurant. lGuests and prospective members are always welcome.
