Tehachapi's Online Community News & Entertainment Guide
Making the rounds of informational speeches, City Manager Greg Garrett brought the Lions Club up to speed on happenings last year and plans for fiscal 2015.
Getting a laugh using his usual opening comment ("We're the government; we're here to help!"), Garrett announced the county was awarding Tehachapi a new tourism grant through their KERNCOG program and this would give the town new tools to attract new business.
"Remember," added Garrett, "we see a lot of business people come through our city - by car, by plane and for events like the GranFondo - and they're doing business here. Plus, we have to consider the prospect that some of them will like our city and decide to live here."
"We even won an award by Cycle magazine and that was in our very first year - we already have signups for the event for this year! And all this means is new money coming in. Plus we're looking at $970,000 to help build the new MotoCross track next to the Rodeo Grounds that we're getting from the California Motorcycle tax. This is all good for you, the taxpayers."
Garrett was enthusiastic about the improvements at the airport and took questions about the $4 million dollar investment. "It's an investment in our future," he said.
