Tehachapi Treasure Trove to Feature Jenny Klein

First Friday

First Friday Fun Fest will be celebrated at Tehachapi Treasure Trove, on Friday evening, March 6, from 5 to 8 p.m. The featured artist will be Jenny Klein. Jenny creates unique three dimensional pictures from prints using a procedure called "paper tole." Art Larson will provide background music on this clarinet.

Jenny has been using paper tole techniques for about 4 years. Her passion began when a 90-year-old friend showed her a completed paper tole picture. She knew immediately that she just had to learn how to do this herself. After considerable online research, and some trial and error, she has developed her own technique. She starts with 5 to 8 prints that she has purchased. The prints have to be printed on quality paper because the backs are treated to allow for shaping. Framing has been a challenge because of the depth required by the three-dimensional effect. Because Jenny does not like the look of box frames she has developed a means of creating a framework that can be placed in a standard frame. The end result is truly outstanding. She will be sharing information about her process during First Friday.

Jenny and her husband have lived in the Tehachapi area for 18 years. Jenny is originally from South Bend, Indiana. She came to California when her husband was stationed in Long Beach and she never left. She raised 6 children in Simi Valley, and moved to Bear Valley when her husband retired. After 5 years in Bear Valley, they decided to move into town and have been living at Mountainaire Estates since. Jenny retired from California Correctional Institution where she was a Health Records Supervisor. She had previously worked as a church secretary and as a dental assistant. In addition to her art, Jenny is active with the women's group in the Mountainaire Estates community where she lives.
