On May 16, at approximately 4:37 p.m., officers responded to a report of structure fire at Coy Burnett Stadium, at the 700 block of E. Tehachapi Blvd. The damaged structure is the snack bar the Tehachapi High School Boosters use for fundraisers and THS local games.
Officers immediately evacuated the surrounding area and the Kern County Fire Department arrived to extinguish the flames. There was major damage caused to the interior of the building. The cost of the damage is unknown. According to the THS Boosters, damage to the inside of the snack bar outweighs the damage on the outside.
A preliminary investigation has determined that the fire was possibly ignited by unknown individuals that intended to cause damage to the structure. Police are seeking information on possible witnesses who were seen leaving the area in a green car.
The Tehachapi Police Department and Kern County Fire Department Arson Unit are actively investigating the incident.
Anyone with any information regarding this incident is encouraged to contact Sergeant Brown at the Tehachapi Police Department (661) 822-2222 ext. #106.
The THS Boosters are overwhelmed with the support they have received in wanting to help rebuild the snack bar. They have a donation button on their web page at http://www.THSBoosters.com that will take you straight to their Paypal account.
The Boosters would like to thank everyone for the support they have already received.
