Jessica Grant receives TMQG scholarship

Tehachapi Mountain Quilt Guild is pleased to announce our Art Scholarship of $1500 was awarded to Jessica Grant. She just graduated with high honors from the Tehachapi branch of Valley Oaks Charter High School and her work will soon be published in the upcoming art book, Acrylic Works 3.

During her high school years, she has worked at Woodward West during the summer and The Art Studio since 2011 where she also teaches art students on an individual basis. Jessica has won many different art contests, including a first place in oil painting at the Kern County Fair, a first place at the National PTA reflection program and she won the senior class design contest in 2014.

In her spare time, Jessica also volunteered as an art instructor for Tehachapi Salvation Army, the Stallion Springs Police Activities League, for the Elegant Evenings of the Arts, for Girl Scouts and more. She was a foster for abused dogs for Marley’s Mutts,

To quote Jessica, “I strongly believe that each of us has the responsibility for caring for one another and for assisting those in need. I had the privilege of growing up in a home where I observed my parents donate their time and money on a regular basis to worthy causes. I believe that art is an international language that everyone, from all walks of life can learn and speak. It is among my greatest passions to introduce others that are less fortunate than me to the world of art.”

Jessica didn’t just meet our scholarship requirements, she exceeded them. We are unable to list all of her awards and achievements, but there are many more. Jessica was accepted by four art schools and will be pursuing her Fine Arts degree at San Francisco Art Institute beginning in August. After finishing her art degree, she’s looking forward to pursuing a Master’s Degree to become a college art professor and would love to, someday, pursue art full time.

Congratulations, Jessica and Tehachapi Mountain Quilt Guild wishes many more successes in the future.
