Tehachapi's Online Community News & Entertainment Guide
Each year Rotary has a change in the President and Board for the club. The hope is that with each new group, new and innovative ideas will come forth and a lot of fresh interest and enthusiasm for Rotary will emerge. The Rotary Club of Tehachapi has had the privilege of having Lisa Ross from July 1, 2014 until the end of June serving as our distinguished President. Lisa, who will remain an active Rotarian and on the Board, is the Manager at the Alta One Bank in Albertsons.
It’s been quite a year thanks to everyone in the Club working together and thank you to Lisa Ross for making the year so successful: Rotary sent nine students to RYLA, and gave $5,000 in scholarships. The Holiday Luncheon fed close to 300 people and we replaced batteries for 140 homes. The group also participated in a Global Grant– helping provide 500 rickshaws for people in India to help give them a sustainable living. The orphanage in Tijuana also benefited from a visit and funds to buy new couches for their entertainment center. Here in Tehachapi the Salvation Army received $1,000 to help with their after school programs. Finishing the year in style the Rotarians gave kindergartners the gift of books just for them.
This year, starting on July 1, Linda Carhart moved into the position of President of The Rotary Club of Tehachapi. Linda comes to Rotary after several years of volunteering with and being the Executive Director of Mainstreet Tehachapi. Linda has a long career in the music business where she worked with such artists as Jethro Tull, Blondie, Pat Benatar, Huey Lewis and the News, Billy Idol and so many more. She also worked for the Las Virgenes USD running their WorkAbility and Transition Partnership Programs which help high school students in special ed plan for work, school or training after graduation.
Linda has been a member of Rotary in Tehachapi for two years and has been the Fundraising and Publicity Chair for the club during that time. She planned the Wine Pairing Dinners and so many of the other fun events that have raised funds so that they can continue to do community work.
