Tehachapi Society of Pilots fundraiser

August 21

The Tehachapi Society of Pilots (TSP) will be holding a fundraiser for High School Graduation Scholarships on Aug. 21st at Jennifer's Terrace, 413 South Curry Street. For over a decade, the TSP has provided scholarships ranging from $500 to $5,000 for graduates who intend to study for an aerospace or aviation related career. Just this year, the TSP awarded FOUR scholarships (two $1000 and two $1500) to the students in the picture: From left to right are Conner Gilliland, Megan Valant, Nickolas Powell, and Noah Finch. Jennifer Williams, Sally Melvill, and Guy Williams made a presentation at a recent TSP Meeting.

Last year's fundraiser at Jennifer's Terrace was a great success, and the TSP hopes for a repeat this year. Petra's will cater the dinner, and The Lounge Guy will entertain the guests with songs from the Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley era. The theme for the evening is "Cool Your Wings", a line from the famous Elvis Presley song "Promised Land". Tehachapi's smallest car show will also be at Jennifer's Terrace for the evening.

As many can attest from last year, the items to be raffled and sold at silent auction were some of the "coolest" stuff in town. Last year local aviation artist Mark Pestana donated an incredible painting of a T-38 in flight (see below) for auction, and local Astronaut Mike Melvill donated a two-dollar bill that he took into space in 2004. This year the TSP anticipates similar items for auction, as well as raffle item ranging from gift baskets, to free services, to distinctive coffee mugs.

If you want to be a part of the excitement, get your tickets early! Only 100 people can attend.

You can purchase at two locations: Petra's restaurant (200 S Green St., Tehachapi), and Jennifer's Terrace office (413 S Curry St., Tehachapi).
