Spay and Neuter clinics increase in September

During the month of September, Have a Heart Humane Society will be increasing the number of spays and neuters that we can take during our Wednesday mini clinics. Dogs of any size are just $35 and cats are $25. The co-pay includes either spay or neuter, rabies vaccination if needed, pain injection and a microchip (mandatory). Pet owners will need to borrow or purchase a cone for dogs to wear following the surgery or any one of the products that discourages licking. Pet owners may purchase cones and additional vaccinations from the vet.

There is no income requirement and no limit on the number of pets that can be signed up. Our goal is to get these pets altered so there are no unwanted litters, however, you must be a Tehachapi resident.

Additionally, if you have feral cats, we can lend you humane traps. You then trap cats on Tuesday evening and bring them to the clinic Wednesday morning. You pick them up early afternoon and return them late afternoon to their colony. You must return them where you found them. We require a $50 refundable deposit for each trap. Cash only. No exceptions. Traps must be returned on Thursday clean and in the same condition as they went out to get your refund. Feral cats will get a rabies vaccination and an ear tip to distinguish them from unaltered feral cats. There is no charge to low income or fixed income Tehachapi residents (proof of residency and income required). This is not a program for tame domestic cats. Upon arrival, cats will be evaluated. If found tame, the person bringing the cat will be asked to remove the cat from the trap and the deposit will not be returned.

Sign-ups are only on Saturdays. To find out where the Have a Heart trailer will be, go to our Facebook page and check out schedule: http://www.facebook.com/haveahearthumanesociety
