Tehachapi Community Theatre: Behind The Scenes
The Miracle Worker opened Friday, August 28, for a three week run through September 13. It's the story of Annie Sullivan (played by Elaine Chilcoat), a young visually-challenged teacher who, although haunted by her own past, reaches into the dark, quiet world of her pupil and opens the world up to her through language, friendship and love. It's also the story of a family who learn that by letting go-not only of Helen, but of their own fears-they, too, are set free.
David Steele Reed is the director and visionary designer of TCT's production of The Miracle Worker and he says his passion for the play is its quintessential story of beating the odds. Taking the very worst circumstances in life and triumphing over them.
"I'm a storyteller and seek out theatrical projects that will emotionally touch the audience. Whether through laughter or tears, anger or fear, I want them to see themselves in a character or situation. Theater and art are reflections of life and help us to truly see ourselves more clearly," says Steele Reed. "I dedicate this show to the teachers who have so richly touched our lives, and to the One who has touched the darkness and who I am blessed to walk in the light with."
