Tehachapi's Online Community News & Entertainment Guide
New members were welcomed to Tehachapi Mountain Branch of American Association of University Women when President Jeannette Crounse opened the first meeting of the 2015-2016 year. Membership Vice-President Jan Combs introduced nine new members and distributed directories to all members.
Program Vice-President Linda Flores introduced Rosanna Esparza who spoke about the impact of oil and gas development on public health. She is the Kern County Organizer for Clean Water Action/Clean Water Fund.
Esparza received her Masters Degree from USC and with the help of a fellowship from AAUW completed her PhD. While working as a gerontologist, she became interested in the effect that air and water quality have on health. She is now a researcher who collects samples and analyzes chemicals emitted from oil and gas. She stressed we must be mindful of the type of activities that cause damage to health and environment.
AAUW membership is open to both men and women with a two year or higher college degree. In addition to monthly meetings, there are interest groups such as Books, Storytellers, Arts and Crafts, and Great Decisions. Call Jan at 823-9303 for membership information.
