The Kern County Fire Department in partnership with the Kern County Sheriff's Office is
assisting the elderly in preparing for the predicted upcoming El Nino storms by providing free
sandbags and sand in an event to be held at the fire department headquarters, 5642 Victor
Street, Bakersfield, California, and at the David Head Center in Lamont,
from 10:00am to 12:00 noon this Saturday, January 16th.
Residents can fill up to 25 sandbags per address with provided sand. Supplies will be
limited.
Sandbags are just one way to help protect private property during potential flood
conditions. Residents are encouraged to prepare by clearing rain gutters, inspecting roofs
and researching flood insurance. More information can be found at:
http://www.kerncountyfire.org/education/emergency-preparedness/el-nino-information.html or
by calling 211.
This event will be concluding all of the departments distribution of sand and sandbags.
Sand and sandbags will NOT be available at any fire station or headquarters. Additional
sandbags can be purchased at home improvement stores and online. For sand locations go
