Tehachapi's Online Community News & Entertainment Guide
Pacific Waterfowl Rescue (PWR) is a new animal rescue in the Tehachapi Valley. Formed in October 2015, it's mission is to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome domestic ducks and geese. They also seek to educate the public about domestic waterfowl and to discourage public dumping of them. Most people do not realize the harm that they do by leaving a domestic duck in a park or lake. Domestic ducks & geese are very vulnerable to predators. Most domestic ducks and geese can't fly and often are not aware of how to evade predators. Another issue is that these birds can carry diseases that wild ducks may be vulnerable to, or vice-versa. PWR has received 501(c)3 non-profit status and is a 100% volunteer run organization. They are actively seeking volunteers for animal care, transport, grant-writing, fundraising, event planning, education, and other administrative areas. Since starting, PWR has taken in over 50 ducks and geese and rehomed half of them. There are still ducks and geese available for adoption and homes are needed. If interested in volunteering or adopting, please email [email protected] or call (760) 914-2170. You can visit their Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/PacficWaterfowlRescue. You can also donate at http://www.paypal.me/PWR. All funds go for feed, bedding, veterinary care, and new pens.
