Water Matters
The drought continues, and smart homeowners everywhere are asking for help with their irrigation systems. To celebrate Smart Irrigation Month, we are offering free irrigation check-ups! Actually, the irrigation check-ups are always free, but this July, 2016, they are extra free. What a concept!
A lot of us have irrigation systems, but did anyone help you learn how to set the timer? How about that spot in the lawn that never gets green. Do you just crank up the minutes for that irrigation zone and forget about it? Do you search for leaks by looking out the window during the commercials? Let us help!
An irrigation check-up takes about an hour. We come to your home or business, tour your landscape with you, and teach you about your irrigation system. You learn how to make adjustments so you’re not watering the street or driveway. We will identify leaks and minor upgrades that improve how evenly the grass is watered. If repairs are needed, you can do them yourself, but if you decide to hire an irrigation company, you already know what needs to be fixed so you won’t get taken advantage of. You’ll learn how to set the timer. Finally, you receive a seasonal watering schedule tailored to your irrigation system and landscape so you can water the right amount. You can keep the grass green without wasting water!
The thing is, you just don’t know what you don’t know. Here’s a good example about irrigation. You probably have sprinklers that water the shrubs in the front of the house, the “foundation plantings.” You can cap those sprinklers. For one thing, the shrubs have grown their roots out into the lawn area and are getting water from those sprinklers. Also, shrubs need less water than turfgrass, most of the shrubs used in landscaping are low water use plants.
Nobody knows everything, even those who are sure they do. But you could help me put that pile of irrigation trainings and certifications to good use by helping you (and help me get out of the office!) Call for an appointment. As always, Liz Block, Water Conservation Coordinator, (661) 822-5504 or [email protected].
P.S. the low flow toilet rebates and the turf removal rebates are still handing out money. I help with those too.
