'Summer Sunset Series'

As the summer winds down, Triassic Vineyards is pleased to present the third lecture in the "Summer Sunset Series". We are looking forward to sharing the beauty we experience each day in the breathtaking Cummings Valley with our vines full bloom in the backdrop.

Once again, we will be welcoming Linda McDermott as she presents yet another fascinating lecture in our tasting room about her travels titled "Sustainability in Nepal", on August 17 starting at 7 p.m.

Nepal is a country of extreme poverty, an abundance of people, and amazing landscapes. The people of Nepal are, for the most part, Hindu, however the people in the northern mountains near the Tibetan border are primarily Buddhist. Linda has traveled on three major month-long treks in the mountain ranges of the Himalayans and soaked in the culture of the Nepalese in the areas she traveled. Linda was able to open her mind to find out how these people survive on very little, taking what they need from the land, and how they remain happy and stable. The presentation she will be giving has been arranged in such a way that combines a look at how the Nepalese build shelters, heat their homes, feed their families, get their water – all the things that enable people to survive. It is a very different world from what we are used to in the United States.

Linda McDermott grew up in a small, rural town near Cincinnati, Ohio before becoming a world traveler. After spending three years in Cambridge, Massachusetts, she moved to Los Angeles, California where she lived and worked in the San Fernando Valley. She began mountain climbing with the Sierra Club, discovering the Sierra Nevada mountains and unusual places throughout deserts in the western states. A career in Human Resources engendered a love for people, so it all made sense to start traveling internationally to learn more about the people and environments of the world. Linda has traveled to all seven continents, spending time in areas such as Kenya, Mongolia, Thailand, Nepal, Tasmania, Patagonia, and throughout Europe. Perhaps the most unusual place she worked was at McMurdo and South Pole Stations in Antarctica.

She currently lives in Tehachapi, California, where she resides with her two rescue dogs and is able to visit her children and grandchildren who live in the Los Angeles area.

The Summer Sunset Series will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on the third Wednesday of each month. The last two lectures will be held on August 17 and September 21. The series will include complimentary snacks and lemonade served in a cozy atmosphere; and as usual, our award winning wines will be available for purchase by the glass or bottle.

We are thrilled to offer the public an evening of intriguing adventures. Please join the Triassic family during "Summer Sunsets" and bring your friends.
