What's Up in Stallion Springs?

Oktoberfest

Stallion Springs Parks and Recreation invites you to the annual Octoberfest Celebration on October 1, from Noon to 6 p.m. at the Stallion Springs Community Center. Everyone is welcome to join in the fun. Food, beer, wine, gifts, and kid friendly activities are just part of the fun for the whole family. No dogs allowed. Vendors are welcome. Contact the CSD at (661) 822-3268 for more details.

Weed abatement

The CSD General Manager Lori Rogers reports, weed abatement is progressing in the community. Field staff is mowing lots as quickly as they can, but can be limited by obstacles on the lots, sloping of the lots, and mechanical repairs. Many other agencies are behind in the mowing schedule - up to 4 weeks - due to late rains and wet grass. The tall grass seems dry, but is still green at the base. This causes bunching and binding of vegetative matter that creates mechanical complications with equipment. I ask that all residents be patient and use caution when driving or mowing and/or weed-eating.

Stallion Springs Board Election

The Stallion Springs CSD has been notified by the Kern County Board of Elections that only the three incumbents have filed for the three positions up for election this year. As this is a vote for 3 and only the 3 incumbent candidates, Clydell Lampkin, Leslie Wellman and Ed Gordon have filed, they will be appointed to the positions and it will not appear on the ballot.

Police report

Police Chief Mike Grant asks, What can you do to stay positive? Get involved in our community! We have exciting opportunities to volunteer, Neighborhood Watch, Community Emergency Response Team, Police Activities League, Community Services Unit, Property Owners Association, and many more. This will help you to stay positive by giving back to our community and being part of the solution to the problems we face. Our police department truly values our large and motivated volunteer force and together, we are making a positive difference.

Neighborhood Watch

Thank you, for your outstanding support of our first ever, Stallion Springs "National Night Out", on Tuesday, August 2, 2016 at our Stallion Springs Community Center Patio. The event was sponsored by your Stallion Springs Police Department (SSPD) and Neighborhood Watch. The goal was to raise funds by donating all proceeds to purchase much needed equipment for our SSPD. National Night Out (NNO) is an annual community building campaign that promotes police, community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, better places to live. Chief Michael Grant has requested that the proceeds be used to purchase an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED), costing about $1,500.00. So far from this event alone, we have collected about $1,022.00!

CERT

The Community Emergency Response Team Basic Training Class is about readiness, people helping people, rescuer safety, and doing the greatest good for the greatest number. CERT is a positive and realistic approach to emergency and disaster situations, where citizens will be initially on their own and their actions make a difference. Through training, citizens can manage utilities and put out small fires; treat the three killers by opening airways, controlling bleeding, and treating for shock; providing basic medical aid; search for and rescue victims safely; and organize themselves and spontaneous volunteers to be effective. Sign up at [email protected] or call (661) 412-CERT for the CERT Basic Training Class at the Stallion Springs CSD Corral Room.
