The Tehachapi Gandy Dancers host 'Dancing Under the Stars'

A beautiful Saturday evening with a light breeze to cool the air, Tehachapi attracted around 100 people to come join the Tehachapi Gandy Dancers Square Dance Club for the Dance Under the Stars at the Skating Rink. Dancers joining the Gandy Dancers came from the Aces and Deuces from Palmdale, the Boots and Slippers from Simi Valley, the Dam Dancers from Lake Isabella, the Joaquin Squares from Bakersfield, the Mountain Squares from Frazier Park, the Sierra Hillbillies from Simi Valley, and the Rounders from Bakersfield. Several guests stopped by to check out the festivities, watching as many as nine squares dancing at a time.

Dick Hodnefeld provided the calls for the square dancing. Square dancers danced to a variety of music venues, from country to the 1950s, 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s. He even provided a number of mountain songs to include Mountain Music and Take Me Home, Country Roads.

Joe Scarlatta and Monica Shank started the night of dancing off providing the cueing for the round dancers. They cued the round dancers between sets of square dancing.

The next dance hosted by the Tehachapi Gandy Dancers is the October Harvest Dance at the Tehachapi SENIOR CENTER at 500 East F Street on Oct. 16, 2016. This dance is also the 38th Anniversary dance for the Gandy Dancers. Come out and join us for some dancing and fun!
