TCT Spotlight
Don't miss this courtroom thriller directed by Rick Gould. It was originally written in 1954, as a CBS teleplay by Reginald Rose, then adapted to the stage play known as "Twelve Angry Men" the following year. Most people would be familiar with the 1957 screen version directed by Sidney Lumit and featuring Henry Fonda. Since then, the play has been produced all over the world, and a remake of the film, titled Twelve Angry Jurors, was made in 1997, directed by William Friedkin, and featuring George C. Scott and Jack Lemmon in an all star, multi-racial cast. The story is one that continues in its relevance throughout the years.
The title of this play changes with the casting choice. It has been cast with all women, and titled "Twelve Angry Women", or with a mixed cast of men and women, as it is here, and titled "Twelve Angry Jurors".
An edge of your seat drama, the play takes us inside the jury deliberation of a murder trial. A nineteen year-old man has been accused of killing his own father. The jurors are deadlocked 11 – 1, in favor of a guilty verdict, but in our justice system, a guilty verdict must be unanimous in order to pass judgment. Tempers flare as the eleven jurors attempt to get the lone dissenter to come around to their side. However, as the evidence is re-examined, new uncertainties come to light, and everyone is forced to question the possibility that "reasonable doubt" exists. More than just a civics lesson, it is a powerful exploration of our democracy in action!
This show is cast with several familiar faces: Emily Marin, Daniela Hernandez, Hanna Clare, Ricky Peregrina, David Shatlock, Lewis Brown, Nick Altieri, Tamar Asatryan and Kenny Chugg. Also included in the cast are some faces new to our stage: Alex Valencia, Daniel Bilgar, Carolyn Scott (who you might recognize from the Senior Center), and Michael Breen, who comes all the way from Palmdale.
