Cars, kids, food, fun and a world of goods at the Apple Festival

On Saturday, Oct. 8 from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 9 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. you are invited to Downtown Tehachapi for the 4th Annual Tehachapi Apple Festival. This year a red Car Show has been added. It will take place on Saturday only, on F Street between Green and Curry from 10 a.m. til 6 p.m. There will be approx. 25 cars for you to view and then vote for the one that you think is the best of the best. The car owner will get a cash prize based on your votes.

On Sunday only the Lions Club will be doing their famous Apple Drop where they take the purchased apples up in a crane and then drop them down to a marked target on the street. The apple closest to the bulls eye gets 50% of the proceeds. The Apple Drop will be taking place on Green Street at 3 p.m. in front of The Hitching Post Theater and Petras.

On both Saturday and Sunday we will have the Kids Zone set up at The Tehachapi Train Depot Museum lawn for kids to play as long as they want for the cost of a $10 bracelet or they can just experience one bounce house, one time for a $3 ticket. The Tehachapi High School Wrestling Team will be manning the Kid Zone and selling water as well as the bracelets and tickets. Also at the Depot deck, The Tehachapi Masonic Lodge will be sponsoring a fingerprinting and DNA collection to give to parents for safekeeping in case of future emergency. This service is free of charge.

At RR Park and on Green Street, on both Saturday and Sunday, there will be a lot of great vendors selling all kinds of great stuff including some wonderful food vendors and drink vendors that will satisfy so many tastes. You can buy apples, apple baked goods, apple drinks, and other apple related items. While you are at RR Park, sit back and relax and enjoy live music or watch a group of kids trying to win the modern day apple bobbing contest. In the afternoon you can watch six or eight adults trying to win an apple pie eating contest; then on Sunday afternoon some wonderful bakers will try their hand at winning the Apple Pie Baking contest. These wonderful pies will be auctioned off for a worthy cause. While on Green Street, visit Centennial Plaza where the Tourism Commission will have a Beer Garden and you can sit and relax while you enjoy more live music.

Spaces are still available for the Car Show. For further information about the Apple Festival, Schedule of Events, etc. you can go to http://www.tehachapiapplefestival.com or call (661) 771-2423.
