Treasure Trove celebrating our teachers

First Friday in Downtown Tehachapi 5-8 p.m., October 7

Lucinda Thomas teaches a drawing class on Monday morning in addition to an afternoon kid's class. Lucinda has 30 years experience in teaching a variety of art forms including drawing, painting, clay throwing and sculpture, mosaics and more. She has worked with children, adults and disabled clients.

Gloria Moore specialized in clay sculpture and hand building using locally mined clays. Her favorite subjects are animals and small containers. Periodically she takes groups to Rosamond to mine their clay and then process it for use.

Juanita Niemeyer holds a Wednesday painting workshop. An art teacher with 50 years of experience, she can help students with any project on which they choose to work. Many of her students are accomplished artists learning new ideas and mediums.

Karen Stevens teaches fiber arts on Thursday afternoons. The class includes knitting. crocheting, embroidery, tatting, needle point and cross stitch. Karen has been working with various forms of fiber arts for over 60 years. She can help with any fiber arts project.

Dawn Callahan conducts monthly classes in jewelry making. Her classes go over the basics of designing and creating jewelry, using basic tools, chain, jump rings, clasps, ear wires, beads and focals. Students will complete a set of necklaces and earrings in class.

Susanna Monette teaches classes in bead loom weaving and dream catcher weaving. She has created and sold many dream catchers over the last few years and enjoys creating her own designs for bead looms to make bracelets, barrettes and decorative sin catchers.

Janet Meabon hosts a monthly class in iris paper folding. She uses colorful papers to create innovative greeting cards. Each month her class creates designs associated with the appropriate season. Her regular students drive many miles to work and play with her.
