Tehachapi Valley Wrestler Michael Murillo competed in the 7th Annual Cal Republic Invitational on Jan. 8 in Corcoran. Murillo received the #1 seed and proved he was worthy of it as he faced some of the best wrestlers in the Central Valley. He received a first round bye and moved to the semi-finals winning by a pin and then outscored his opponent 7-0 to earn the Champion honors.
"I am very proud how Michael has progressed this year" said Coach Curtis Nelson.
Other TVWC wrestlers traveled to Norwalk and competed in the "Battle of the Dogs". Placing were Bantam wrestler Kayden Gonzales 2nd at 60Ibs, Intermediate wrestler Stephen Meek 2nd at 55Ibs. Levi Hart placed 2nd at Novice 80Ibs. Middle School wrestlers were; Jairdan Medina 2nd 75lbs, Elijah Graves 110lbs and Wyatt Ritchie 85lbs 3rd and Cayden Castelleron 4th at 85lbs Others competing were: Dalton Vaughn, Owen Schneider, Jacob Mesa, and Denver Kipp.
Tehachapi Valley wrestlers continue with their busy competition schedule. Middle school wrestlers, Jacob Tye(126lbs) and Elijah Grave(106lbs) fought their way through some tough competition at the Selma New Year Bash, Jan. 14. Tye went 2-2 while Graves went 3-2. "Their only losses were against place winners" said Coach Jerry Tye.
Jan. 15 TVWC headed south to LaVerne to the 3 G Wrestling Tournament. Rookie wrestler Jordan Cardenas 45lbs had two tough losses and didn't place but was selected as "Wrestler of the Week" for K-1 grade division. Bantam wrestlers were Ivan Madueno first place 70Ibs, Kayden Gonzales fourth place 60Ibs and Dalton Vaugh 55Ibs and Jacob Cardenas 60Ibs. Intermediate Division had Stephen Meek first at 55Ibs, selected for 2-5 grade "Wrestler of the Week" and Kaidyn Roberts 75Ibs 4th. Novice age group were Bryce Rodriguez dirst place 90Ibs, selected as "Wrestler of the Week" and Levi Hart 2nd at 80Ibs. Middle School had teammates at the same 85Ibs weight class with Jairden Medina,moving up from 75Ibs, placing 2nd and Cayden Castelleron finishing 5th.
From last week's "Battle of the Dogs" meet "Wrestlers of the Week" were K-1 Owen Schneider, 2-5 grade Kayden Gonzales and M.S. Cayden Castelleron. "We will be finishing up our regular tournaments in the next few weeks and then on to Valley, Masters, KCWA Championships and USA State Meet." Said Coach Curtis Nelson
