Rebuilding Together, a 501(c)3, non-profit organization, is the nation's largest volunteer home rehabilitation organization dedicated to preserving and revitalizing houses and communities. Throughout the year and throughout the country – Rebuilding Together® affiliates help ease the lives of thousands of low-income, elderly, disabled and veteran homeowners. The Abrahamson Project Is a partnership between Rebuilding Together Kern County, Home Depot's "Team Depot" Foundation and other Tehachapi community businesses.
The local project home belongs to an elderly couple that is in desperate need of home repairs. The husband is 74 years of age and served in the US Air Force. The husband and his wife are the parents of a severely disabled 48 year old son. The home's roof has leaked for quite some time and the leaking water is captured inside by kitty litter boxes spread throughout the homes interior. The couple had planned on purchasing a large tarp to place on the roof's exterior, however, being on SSI and with a limited income they would be unable to fix the roof and other repairs the home needed. Rebuilding Together Kern County and Home Depot hope to accomplish the project in one day at no cost to the home owners.
Besides being in desperate need of a new roof, the yard was in need of repair in places, and a general cleanup was necessary. Trees needed to be trimmed, and weeds pulled, and removed.
According to Home Depot Store #6835 manager, Kimberle Perez, future plans include an entire re-painting of the homes exterior. She explained we have already cleared the front and back yard, and made the entrance to the back yard safer with pavers instead of a rotted piece of wood. A very appreciative Mary and husband Eric, were watching the renovation work.
Rebuilding Together Kern County and Home Depot would like to thank Albertson's, Starbuck's, Subway and Benz for their generous donations.
