Tehachapi High School Advanced Drama is pleased to be performing Pride and Prejudice, written by Jane Austin. Featuring four proposals, three rejections, two marriages and one scandal, this classic adaptation, written by Rebecca Gellott, has both drama and wit.
Amanda Webster, a sophomore, is playing the lead of Miss Elizabeth Bennet. She became interested in acting when performing in Cinderella at Tehachapi Community Theater. She likes the character of Elizabeth Bennet because, "She's witty. She's intelligent, but she is still kind." Amanda also says she enjoys the time era and that "It's such a classic age. It's such a romantic time that it's hard to not fall in love with it."
Ricky Peregrina, a senior, is playing Mr. Darcy. He became interested in acting at the age of thirteen when he played Donald Dunce in the Prince and the Pea for Tehachapi Community Theater. He says of Pride and Prejudice, "It's definitely the biggest thing I have ever done. I've never done a period piece." He also says, "The acting is not just in your mannerisms but in your mind set as well." Ricky believes audiences will love the humor and the drama of the play.
Cierra Cole is a very talented artist and a senior at Tehachapi High School. She designed both the poster for the play and the sets. She has always been interested in drawing. When she was young, she used to draw things for her mom. Of working on Pride and Prejudice as the set designer she says, "It is very stressful. Sometimes, I think I can't get it all done in time but it is all coming together." In terms of designing the set she says, "It was a challenge to work on a period piece because I didn't know much about the Regency period." She also says, "I just want everyone to like the set."
