Earth Day speaker Dr. Richard P. Turco is a retired UCLA Atmospheric and Oceanic Science Professor.
By day's end nearly 300 people had celebrated Earth Day in the Phillip Marx Central Park.
Locals marched through the streets of Tehachapi on Saturday, April 22 in celebration of Earth Day. Part of a nationwide event, the celebration drew nearly 100 marchers through town. The marchers returned to Phillip Marx Central Park, where educational games and exhibits, along with several environmental speakers who poke throughout the afternoon, drawing a crowd of 200 additional attendees.
Lifetime residents Jon Hammond and Kawaiisu basket weaver Janice Williams display non-industrially made cooking utensils and baskets. Woven tight enough to hold water, these plant based pots would be filled with a liquid and by the addition of a hot rock would then be heated.
This Earth Day science exhibit showed fans old and young alike what lives in everyday “pond water”.
