Steve Denman to speak at 31st annual Prayer Breakfast

Kiwanis Club of Tehachapi

Steve Denman has been selected as the keynote speaker at the May 4 Prayer Breakfast sponsored by Kiwanis Club of Tehachapi. The breakfast is one of the events planned for the National Day of Prayer. It will be held on Thursday, May 4, at 6:45 a.m. at St. Malachy's McMullan Hall, 407 West E Street.

Denman was chosen to speak because of the example he has set for staff and students at Tehachapi High School where he teaches and coaches football. He believes strongly in taking responsibility for one's actions and working for the common good. He is quick to praise others and gives credit to them for his own successes.

Born in Lancaster, the Denman family moved to the area when he was ten years old. He attended local schools and graduated from Tehachapi High School in 1975. While in school he played basketball and football. He attended Bakersfield College where he began his coaching career as an assistant at BC.

In 1981, Denman earned his degree in biology life science at Cal State Bakersfield. He was offered a teaching job and coaching job at Tehachapi High School. He has just completed his 34th year as Tehachapi's head football coach and has the best record and the most wins by any active high school football coach in California. He recently announced his retirement from coaching so he and his wife, Judy, can spend more time with their daughter, son and grandchildren.

Listening to an inspiring message from Steve Denman is just one reason to attend the 31st Annual Prayer Breakfast. Another reason is the delicious breakfast which will be prepared and served by Linda Pettitt. Tickets are $10 and are available from Kiwanis members, the Salvation Army office 538 E Tehachapi Blvd, or The Loop newspaper, at 206 South Green Street.
