Old Timers' Reunion nears

The Fifty-eighth Annual Old Timers' Reunion date, August 6, is already being planned by the members of the Reunion Committee along with Ashley Krempien, Recreation Coordinator for Tehachapi Recreation and Parks District. The historic, century old city park, now known as Philip Marx Central Park, is the favorite meeting place for those attending to renew old acquaintances.

One important factor of the coming event is to make any necessary address changes of guests who will be attending. This will ensure that the invitations arrive safely. Any updates or pertinent changes should be directed to, [email protected] or call Tehachapi Recreation and Parks, (661) 822-3228. It would be beneficial to alert friends, who plan on coming, to do likewise. It is imperative that the 400 name guest list be as accurate as possible. Equally important is to RSVP so a dinner count can be made.

If you were born in Tehachapi and have reached your fortieth birthday, you are an Old Timer whether you like it or not. Also, you may qualify if you lived here forty years ago or have finally been a resident here forty years. Forty seems to be the magic word. Guests are always welcome but are expected to register and buy their own dinner.

Until a few years ago the gathering was known as the "Old Timer's Picnic" but reunion or picnic, it's on its way! The oldest man and woman attending will be recognized as well as the person who traveled farthest. The meal, catered by Mill Street Kitchen, will be served by local young people. No standing in line for the Old Timer's or guests! The emcee will be Jon Hammond who will see that each table is visited and diners recognized.

August 6 is the date and Tehachapi's Philip Marx Central Park is the place.
