Communication and Kudos

From the City Manager

I'd like to thank The Coffee Mill, one of our great local businesses for hosting myself and Mayor Ed Grimes at our first 'Coffee with the Mayor and City Manager." We had several great conversations with residents and we left with more ideas on ways to continue to support the citizens of our community.

This initiative is the latest of several communications-focused efforts by the City to keep the public informed on what we're working on, projects happening in our community and simply get to know people on a more-personal basis while enjoying something as simple as a cup of coffee. We were encouraged by the turnout and are considering making this a monthly event,

On another communications note, I'd like to remind you about all our social media offerings to help keep you informed. Thanks to the efforts of our community engagement specialist Key Budge, we can be found on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram at City of Tehachapi. You can also watch the City Council meetings on our City of Tehachapi YouTube channel the first and third Monday of each month beginning at 6 p.m. We also encourage you go engage and attend the meetings held at the Wells Education Center at 300 S. Robinson Street.

Another Win for Tehachapi

Congratulations to our very own Marty Pay of Farmers Insurance for winning 'Veteran Owned Business of the Year' from the Central California Small Business Development Center Network. The award encompasses 14 counties and marks the second time in three years a Tehachapi business was honored.

I was fortunate to travel to Fresno with Mayor Grimes, Mayor Pro Tem Susan Wiggins and some City staff to honor Marty and his entire team for their tremendous efforts. Special thanks as well to Jay Thompson of the CSU Bakersfield Small Business Development Center for his support and consulting efforts for Marty and other Tehachapi businesses.

Small businesses are the lifeblood of our community and our nation, if you would like to seek consulting help from the SBDC visit CSUB.edu/sbdc.

Thanks for reading, we look forward to using this platform to engage the community and inform them about the great work being accomplished here in the City of Tehachapi.
