BeeKay Theatre, a Tehachapi gem

From the City Manager

If you haven't had the chance to experience the Tehachapi Community Theatre at the historic BeeKay Theatre Downtown, I would encourage you to make it a priority in the coming year. I took the opportunity to accompany family to 'The Best Christmas Pageant Ever' during its final weekend and needless to say, I was impressed.

The production was cast almost entirely with our local children, telling the story about troubled kids initially using the concept of a Christmas pageant as a chance to hang out. But, ultimately they settled into their roles and actually put on the best Christmas pageant ever. Metaphorically the story sort of symbolizes our community, because it was with the help of others that these kids in the story, initially not engaged in the play, ultimately enjoyed themselves and became a part of the church community.

My hats off to the Tehachapi Community Theatre for this production, the cast and the directors for pulling it off for the four weekends it played the BeeKay. TCT is something I hope you will consider as an entertainment option here in Tehachapi. They have a long season of planned productions that bring the drama of live theater to our community.

There are also big plans in the works for the BeeKay, TCT members are fundraising for an expansion which would mean more theatre space and additional seating. Details can be found online at http://www.tctonstage.com as can information in regards to membership and upcoming productions.

Just like the play, the TCT is run by volunteers, people who facilitate things like opportunities for youth and growth of the arts and entertainment scene in Tehachapi. My thanks to the volunteers who made not only "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever" a success, but continue to write the success story of the BeeKay and community theatre.

The volunteer spirit, the sense of community, the presentation of opportunities are all characteristics that are unique to our community. We reflect on those during the Holidays and will rely on those to continue to propel us forward in 2018. Keep up the great work Tehachapi!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
