Gold Mountain Sports Tavern, a dream realized

"It is a dream come true," says Jose Guevara of Gold Mountain Sports Tavern, his new restaurant located at 20601 W. Valley Blvd. in Tehachapi. The idea of a sports bar was his dream ten years ago in 2008 when he first planned to open a restaurant in Tehachapi. That dream had to take a back seat when the opportunity came along to open Don Perico's Mexican Restaurant on Valley Blvd. That family restaurant has been so successful that they have just signed a lease for another ten years. On December 14, almost ten years after the opening of Don Perico, Jose and the Guevara Campos Group, his family company, proudly announced the opening of his dream restaurant, Gold Mountain Sports Tavern.

Gold Mountain Sports Tavern currently features a large variety of wings, sandwiches and 19 specialty burgers. A special children's menu is also available in the main dining room. The restaurant features a full bar that includes draft, bottled and craft beer choices. Providing good food to Tehachapi has always been Jose's goal. The large dining room creates a family friendly atmosphere with ten TVs that can be viewed from anywhere in the room. A second room is set up to create a more adult ambiance for music and dancing. Jose said that they will have a DJ, or possibly trivia, with dancing after 5 p.m. Karaoke is planned for Fridays. Beyond the music room is a game room where adult customers can rent equipment for pool and foosball. The main dining room sports a state-of-the-art jukebox. Diners can download an app to order their music or pay for it the old fashioned way with cash.

Gold Mountain Sports Tavern has taken almost a year to become a reality. Jose said that about five months were spent in planning with an architect and engineer followed by another five months of actual construction. His goal has always been to provide good food for the people of Tehachapi and now more jobs as well. He adds that without Don Perico's, Gold Mountain wouldn't exist. "It is all thanks to the people of Tehachapi," says Jose.

Gold Mountain Sports Tavern is open seven days a week opening at 11 a.m. On Sunday through Thursday they close at 10 p.m. and on Friday and Saturday they are open until midnight. Happy Hour is Monday through Friday from 3 to 6 p.m. with specials on draft beer, house margaritas and appetizers. Jose plans to hold the Grand Opening on Saturday, January 27 and will be open on that day from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Weather permitting, there will be a canopy set up in front of the restaurant from 11 to 4 p.m. with food samples and activities for kids.
