Tehachapi's Online Community News & Entertainment Guide
There is only one Desert Tortoise Days in the High Desert!
The Tortoise Days Festival is the signature event for California City. It has been a success for decades and continues to be the highlight of the social calendar in the community. Located at Central Park, 10400 Heather Ave., the festival covers an entire weekend and includes our California City Arts Commission's annual Art Show in the Arts and Community Building both Saturday and Sunday. The Saturday events also include food, Mayde in Ireland (featured band), Police K-9 Demo, bouncy house, kids game arena, craft and marketplace booths. Our Museum Society will host a Peddlers Fair with antiques and collectables, and historic displays in the Strata both Saturday and Sunday. Sunday will be a Kids Fishing Derby in front of the Arts Center and Church in the park. We have many community organizations that help make this a successful event! If you would like to be a part of the event we are still accepting non-vendor applications and entertainment groups.
Tortoise Days Parade, April 28
This year's Theme: "A Bright Future".
The Tortoise Days Parade is among the oldest springtime parades in the High Desert. On average about 1,000 parade spectators line up along California City Blvd. Our own parade chairman Dr. Jeff Williams organizes bands, equestrian groups, floats, marching groups, Miss California City, and her court, and kid pleasing entries. This year's specialty appearances, the Grand Marshalls are our School Districts Administrators. We invite you to join us! Come be a part of the fun. Entries are being accepted.
The parade starts at 10:30 a.m. and runs West to East down California City Blvd., between Isabella and 82nd.
For applications for non-food vendor or the parade email [email protected], Brenda Daverin Park Manager, California City.
