On Thursday, May 10, 2018 the Tehachapi Police Department teamed up with McDonald's in Tehachapi for Coffee with a Cop, and invited the community to stop by and say hello.

"These events allow people to come up and talk to police officers in a relaxed atmosphere and give them a chance to get to know us," said Chief Kent Kroeger.

Coffee with a Cop originally started in Southern California in 2011 and quickly grew to an event held across the nation by most law enforcement agencies.

TPD holds three Coffee with a Cop events each year in Tehachapi, with the next one occurring in the Fall of 2018.

Business Watch ID theft presentation

On May 9, 2018 the Tehachapi Police Department provided identity theft awareness training for the employees of Coldwell Banker Best Realty in Tehachapi. Dottie Connolly, who co-owns the business, asked TPD to share the presentation with her employees after she heard about the training that was given to a local civic group. “It is valuable information that I thought needed to be shared,” said Connolly.

The information presented to the Coldwell Banker Best Realty staff opened some eyes on how fraud is committed and how to better protect themselves and their clients from possibly being victimized by identity theft.

The identity theft training is part of the Business Watch program offered by the Tehachapi Police Department. “As a police department we try to make ourselves available to the business community in the City of Tehachapi,” said Chief Kent Kroeger.

Business Watch is a version of Neighborhood Watch tailored for businesses.
