Summer camp focuses on the arts

Slice of Life Enrichment School

Slice of life is offering a variety of fun and exciting Summer Camp Programs, all designed to help keep your child engaged and learning throughout the summer! Several sessions are available for each of the programs and will focus on a variety of ages and interests:

Fine Arts Beginning Drawing Crash Course:

This course, taught by well-known artist and instructor, Alicia Garver is the same course she offers as an 8-week session during the school-year condensed into one intensive and exciting week. Students, ages 9-Adult are taught to see like artists, and produce beautiful original art using the same techniques that have made Mrs. Garvers' students winners in 13 of the last 15 Annual Congressional Art Contests.

Classes are 2 hours each day from Monday, July 9, through Friday, July 13. There are 3 class times available: 11-1 p.m./1:30-3:30 p.m./ or 4-6 p.m. Limited to 10 students per class.

Cost is $150/10 Hr. ~1 week session. All materials included.

Little Sprouts Art Camp:

This course is designed for little ones ages 5-9, who would like to participate in creating fun, large, collaborative pieces that would be too involved (or delightfully messy) to tackle in the regular 1 hr. classes we offer throughout the school-year. We will introduce children to the joy of assemblage, where they learn to make new and innovative art pieces from either recycled materials or things that were originally designed for other uses. We will also play creative, art-related games and experiment with wacky and unconventional techniques to make wonderfully original and beautiful art, indoors and outdoors.

Classes are 2 hours each day from Monday, July 9, through Friday, July 13.

Time: 11-1 p.m. (cost $120/10 Hr. ~1 week session. All materials included. Limited to 20 students.

French & Spanish Semi-Immersion/Culture Excursion Camps:

These camps are designed to introduce students, ages 8-14 to the French or Spanish language in a fun group environment that will also introduce them to the culture and beauty of various French and Spanish speaking countries. Students will learn lots of basic vocabulary, sing fun songs, play interactive games, learn about and create their own culturally relevant art, take virtual tours, and sample delicious regional foods.

Piano Sight-Reading/Duet/Ensemble Camp:

These 2 week camps for ages 10-17 are designed to take student piano skills to the next level in a fun, socially rewarding way, by teaching the basics of playing with other pianists and players of other instruments as well. Students will also learn to better play solo pieces in social settings where they often don't have advance notice or weeks to prepare. And since music is meant to be shared – not just practiced alone, participants will be invited to finish the summer by performing in a special "Tea for Two Duet Recital" at Slice of Life. Come experience the joy of making music together!

Creative Writing/Drama Camp

This exciting, 2 week camp gives students ages 9-16 the opportunity to first write a play together and 10 minute plays individually. They then stage, direct and rehearse. Their performance for the public will then be held on the evening of the last day of camp. Creative Writing Teacher, and Actress, Emily Marin, starring performer in many BeeKay Theatre productions and former BeeKay board member will be facilitating this camp.
