Safety gear handed out to children

Tehachapi Police Department

Tehachapi Police Officers have been talking to children in the community about bicycle safety and giving them helmets.

"We are grateful for the opportunity to build relationships with the children in our community and educate them about bicycle safety," said TPD Chief Kent Kroeger.

The City of Tehachapi obtained a safety grant from the Active Transportation Program and purchased bicycle helmets and lights. Officers patrol the streets of Tehachapi as part of their day to day business. When they see a child riding a bike or scooter without a helmet they stop and talk to them about the importance of being safe while riding.

TPD Officers have been handing out helmets and stickers to children for the past couple of weeks and will continue to do so as supplies last.
