Tehachapi's Online Community News & Entertainment Guide
First Friday in Downtown Tehachapi - 5-8 p.m., March 1, 2019
Join us on March 1 from 5 to 8 p.m. for First Friday at the Tehachapi Museum. A new exhibit opening in March highlights the 50th Anniversary of the Tehachapi Community Theater. Programs, posters and costumes from the past 50 years will be featured. TCT now performs in the BeeKay Theatre, a beautifully restored venue that allows for professional quality plays and musicals. The year-long celebration culminates in a Gala to be held in October.
Several continuing exhibits will be ending this month, including a display of the pottery of Mata Ortiz, a region of NW Chihuahua, Mexico featuring a portion of the collection of sisters Mary Cunningham of Tehachapi and Gianna Ranuzzi of Berkeley. Many of the items were purchased in Mata Ortiz directly from the artists.
A separate exhibit features Pez dispensers on loan from local collector Harold Cox. The collection includes a few regular production dispensers as well as many specially produced items for the collector community. Some are based on cartoon characters, action figures and some in boxed sets. There are several oversized dispensers ranging to a foot tall.
The pottery of Bear Valley resident Jim Yurk who passed away several years ago is also on display and the items can be purchased at a reduced price.
The Tehachapi Museum is open every Friday, Saturday and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. The Museum is at 310 South Green St. and the Errea House Museum is across the street at 311 South Green St.
