Always Ready Construction

Always Ready Construction may be new to Tehachapi but the company's owner, General Contractor Jeff Thorsnes is not. Seeking a simpler life lifestyle, Thorsnes and his family moved to Tehachapi in 2013 from the Bay Area following his retirement from a 15 year career with Starbucks where he rose through the ranks from services manager to facilities manager to construction manager to senior project manager of construction. Always good with a hammer, his Tehachapi friends always asked him first when they needed help with projects. Before he knew it, he had a very busy handyman business.

During his years with Starbucks, Thorsnes supervised the opening of 125 stores from the Bay Area to Madera, Calif. to Elko, Nev. He said that at one time he opened 13 stores in 13 weeks which seems like it should be some kind of a record. During that time he worked with developers, architects, engineers, construction crews, inspectors and health departments. This experience also gave him the opportunity to work with hospitals, hotels and restaurants. He added that his retirement from Starbucks also guaranteed him a free pound of Starbucks coffee every week for life.

In 2018, now in Tehachapi with a thriving handyman business, Thorsnes began to think in terms of taking on bigger projects again. Having worked full time since he was 17 years old, he finally got his diploma through Tehachapi Adult School in 2018. He was class valedictorian. He received his General Contractor's license in February 2019 and Always Ready Construction (ARC) was born. The company will specialize in all phases of residential construction as well as commercial construction, including restaurants. Keep in mind that this is the guy with experience dealing with the most challenging health departments.

Thorsnes said, "If you build your business on principle, honesty and integrity and meet or beat expectations, success is the result."

Thorsnes is thrilled to be living in Tehachapi. "It's like a dream come true," he said. Having played the fiddle since the 1970s in San Diego, one of his first connections here was with Fiddlers Crossing. He was invited to play with Gary Mazzola and Friends at the BeeKay and on Mazzola's CDs. In 2016, he was recruited to portray the fiddle-playing Uncle Arthur in TCT's "A Child's Christmas in Wales." Most recently, he was cast as the Blind Hermit in TCT's production of "Young Frankenstein." He credits voice lessons from Fiddler's Crossing with helping him get the role. There is no doubt that he will be seen in future TCT productions.

In the meantime, he will be putting his decades of construction experience to work here in Tehachapi. ARC is licensed and bonded. He will be hiring local talent to help him provide prompt, courteous and extraordinary customer service.

Says Stewart Koch of Tehachapi, for whom Thorsnes has done several projects over the last several years, "In all work, I found Mr. Thorsnes highly efficient, inventive and protective in the use of time, materials, manpower, tools and equipment, rentals and reaching ultimately an outstanding project outcome."
