Tehachapi's Online Community News & Entertainment Guide
In honor of their mothers, Karen Lewis and her husband opened The Spirited Bead on Mother's Day in 1999.
Though this Mother's Day weekend marks the official anniversary, they will celebrate their 20th year in Tehachapi on May 17-18, with door prizes, Make n' Takes, refreshments and a grand prize.
"We love it here and the people as well. Getting to create with, and for, our customers makes my heart happy. I was born to be a 'maker' and to be able to do that in our hometown is a bonus," Lewis said. "Since I do trade shows with my art beads, I always bring the Tehachapi magazines with me to hand out, which in turn brings those people to our sweet, growing town."
Since opening its doors in 1999, Karen said The Spirited Bead has expanded its space and products.
"We also began doing repairs and redesigns on costume jewelry; updating older styles to a more contemporary look, especially on jewelry passed on from loved ones. [It] has been very sweet to see the transformative impact. We also offer a service where customers have their 'wish list' registered for those who have no idea what to give their loved ones ... with free gift wrapping," she said.
When asked the key to keeping a thriving business in Tehachapi, Lewis said, "Perseverance, continuity, ideas, stamina! Be open the hours that are posted for sure, so many are not."
Happy Anniversary to The Spirited Bead, and be sure to join in on the celebration May 17-18 from noon to 4 p.m.
The Spirited Bead is located at 435 West J St.
