TUSD adds new security layer for school visitors

Tehachapi School Board Update

As an enhancement to student safety, Tehachapi Unified School District is adding a new visitor management system effective Monday, Aug. 19. Anyone wishing to visit a district school must submit to screening by the new Raptor Technologies System when checking in at the school office. The Raptor System screens for sex offenders only, said TUSD Superintendent Stacey Larson-Everson and will be in use during school hours. Larson-Everson said that there have been multiple layers of communication with district families regarding the new system so that everyone is aware that there is no entry without screening.

She also clarified the use of pepper spray on campuses stating that only the Deputy of Security and Truancy is authorized to carry it. Board policy provides for the use if pepper spray only when authorized by the superintendent and may be used only for self-defense purposes in accordance with the penal code.

The TUSD Board meets on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month at 6 p.m. at the TUSD District Office, 300 S. Robinson St.
