Tehachapi Symphony Orchestra
The Tehachapi Strings Orchestra, under the direction of Gayel Pitchford, will perform its fall concert on Friday, October 25, 2019, at 7:00 p.m. at Tehachapi Valley United Methodist Church on Schout Road (across the street from Country Oaks Baptist) in Tehachapi. This concert will feature Violists Miles Middleton and Everett Hamilton performing George Telemann’s Concerto for Two Violas with the Tehachapi Strings Orchestra. The Orchestra will also play the first movement of Dvorak’s Symphony No. 8.
Both Violists play regularly with the Tehachapi Strings Orchestra and recently auditioned for and joined the Tehachapi Symphony, as well.
Middleton just retired from his career as an aviator in the US Air Force. Hamilton is currently working at an organic farm and plans to attend college to study engineering.
The Junior Orchestra will open the show with selections from The Wizard of Oz.
The following students will also perform in recital: Violinists Ginevra Robbins, Joy Robb, Ethan Yang, Sue Pollard, BJ Zheng, Emily Hamilton, Miriam Berglund, Cellist Johnnie Batistessa, and Bassist Natalie Whiteside.
The Strings Orchestra is the Tehachapi Symphony’s intermediate-level teaching orchestra; many of its graduates have gone on to play in the Symphony and a number of them have received music scholarships for college. The Junior Orchestra is a beginning-level orchestra, composed of musicians from age 10 to 70+. Strings Orchestra and Junior Orchestra are the “farm clubs” for the Tehachapi Symphony.
There will be a reception following the concert, so the audience can meet and socialize with the players. This is a great opportunity to bring the whole family and expose the children to the wonders of playing a musical instrument. This performance is presented free to the public.
