Lions collecting for Christmas for Seniors Project

Lions Club of Tehachapi

The Tehachapi Lions Club held their 7th annual Apple Drop at the Apple Festival on Oct. 13. One thousand sponge ball apples numbered 1-1,000 were dropped from a man lift which was donated by BSE Rents. This year there were eleven gift cards won, including $1,000 from Walmart and $500 from Home Depot. The Lions would like to thank our following donors: Sailthru Carwash, Save Mart, Steampunk Café, Starbucks donated by Country Real Estate, Carlo’s Donuts, Gold Mountain Grill, Henry’s Cafe, Kohnen’s Bakery and P-Dub’s Restaurant. A big thank you to BSE Rents for providing the man lift. A great thanks goes to the Tehachapi High School Football Team for their help in setting up this year’s event.

The Lions’ second part of our Apple Drop fundraiser is for our “Christmas for Seniors” service project to brighten the holidays for low-income, isolated and/or homebound seniors who in some cases have no family. Along with their “Wish List” gifts, the seniors also receive a bag of sundries. The community can help by donating the following items: two-ply toilet paper, dryer fabric softener sheets, shaving cream, hand and body wash, shampoo, conditioner and lotions, paper towels, tissues, laundry detergent, toothpaste, toothbrushes, antiperspirant, hand sanitizer, calendars, large print books and word find books. This project was started by Sandy Morris’ “Christmas for Seniors” in Bakersfield. Thank you for your donations and they can be dropped off through Dec. 9 at The Loop newspaper at 206 S. Green St. in Downtown Tehachapi, open Monday through Thursday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. or the greater Tehachapi Chamber of Commerce, 209 E. Tehachapi Blvd., open Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., closed for lunch from 1 to 2 p.m.

The Apple Drop fundraiser also donated $1,000 to the Lions Diabetes foundation.
