Planning Commission Update
A planned microbrewery project received a go-ahead from the Tehachapi Planning Commission at their Dec. 9 meeting. The Commission voted to change the land use of Building B at 325 N. Industrial Parkway from “generic business” to “microbrewery.” No name was given for the microbrewery but Cristina Checa said she plans to pattern the microbrewery after the business model of Sierra Nevada.
Sierra Nevada’s mission statement is: “Quality, craftsmanship and flavor...strive to be as environmentally responsible as possible.” Checa said her ultimate goal is to have as much product as possible grown locally and to purchase from companies with the same ideological business values. In addition to the brewing areas of the space, a 10 seat bar area is planned. Checa said that, in the future, she would like the brewery to produce its own energy with the addition of solar panels.
A 3,500-square-foot industrial metal building was approved for a location on the east side of Bailey Court, off of E. Tehachapi Blvd. The business occupant plans to operate a dog daycare, boarding and grooming facility along with a small retail area. Superior Construction of Bakersfield will be the builder and will provide the required 2,750 square feet of landscaping. The commission found that the project was consistent with the goals and policies of the City’s General Plan.
This ‘n’ That Home Decor and Rancho Raviri Almonds and Gifts, located at 777 Tehachapi Blvd., proposed an expansion to their retail space with the addition of an outdoor storage shed display area behind their store. The Planning Commission unanimously approved the 127 ft. by 66 ft. addition. Lee Barron III, owner of This ‘n’ That, said that he agreed to add new trees to the currently sparse landscaping bringing it into compliance with City landscaping requirements.
The Tehachapi Planning Commission meets the second Monday of the month at 6 p.m. in the Wells Education Center, 300 S. Robinson St.
