Tehachapi Valley Wrestling Club

Tehachapi Valley Wrestling Club finished up their regular Folkstyle tournament schedule during the last few weeks and are now headed into the post season tournaments.

Bakersfield Jr. Drillers hosted the CVYWA Super Bowl Blitz on Feb. 1.

Drake Lightner, K-1 grade, 44 pound Division, came home with the silver medal, teammate Owen Schneider, competing in the 4-5 grade, 62 pound class, also received the silver medal.

TVWC wrestled in the Cal Republic Super State event Feb. 8 in Delano. Jake Brown was the top placer for the team, winning his 2-3 grade, 44 pound bracket. Jake earned the second part of the two-piece trophy series and another singlet.

"Jake wrestled well and had a strong opponent for the finals and won 4-0," said Coach Curtis Nelson.

Drake Lightner and Phillip Coates went 4th and 5th in the K-1, 44 pound bracket. TVWC's 48 pounders, Noe Mesa, Drake Lightner and Marcus Coates all competed in the K-1 Division. Noe Mesa ended the day in 5th place. Also completing the day with the 5th place position was Maddox MacLachlan (2-3 grade, 53 pounds), Evan Lutgen (middle school, 83 pounds) and Levi Hart (middle school, 112 pound class.) Kayden Gonzales (4-5 grade, 82 pound bracket) and Reese Hart (5-8 girls, 123 pound group) both earned bronze medals.

Also competing were Owen Schneider, Gabriel Mesa and Myles Bega.

Tehachapi VALLEY WRESTLING CLUB competed Feb. 16 in the CVYWA Southern Valley Qualifier held in Wasco. Jake Brown continued his winning streak earning the first place trophy for the 2-3 grade, 43 pound division. Drake Lightner was runner up in the K-1, 43 pound class. Others placing and moving on to CVYWA Masters will be: Gabriel Mesa 3rd (2-3 grade, 55 pounds), Maddox MacLachlan 4th (2-3 grade, 55 pounds), Owan Schneider 3rd (4-5 grade, 58 pounds), Michael Brown 3rd (4-5 grade, 76 pounds), Marcus Coates 5th (K-1, 49 pound), Kayden Gonzales 5th (4-5 grade, 82 pounds), Evan Lutgen 5th (middle school, 83 pounds.), Phillip Coates 6th (K-1, 49 pounds) and Noe Mesa 7th (K-1, 49 pounds)
