Book drive for Porterville Library

City of Tehachapi

The City of Tehachapi and the Kern County Library Tehachapi Branch have collaborated on a book donation drive for the Porterville Public Library.

Throughout the month of March, the community can donate books of any kind for the Porterville Library and drop them off at either Tehachapi City Hall on Robinson Street or the Kern County Library Tehachapi Branch on Green St.

“We are able to honor the firefighters who gave their lives protecting life and property on that tragic day in February. We felt very strongly at the city to show support and thought we could partner with our local library in a book donation drive to help Porterville in a small way,” said Key Budge, community engagement specialist for the City of Tehachapi.

Mayor Susan Wiggins and her brother have committed to donating more than 300 books from their own personal collection.

“I’m really happy to facilitate my brother as he downsizes and also to be able to help the Porterville Library,” Wiggins said.

She added that opening the drive for the entire community to help was a wonderful way to support Porterville.

On Tuesday, Feb. 18, the Porterville Fire Department lost two brave firefighters while battling a fire that burnt the Porterville Public Library.
