Adventist Health has announced that certified family nurse practitioner Amber Medina, MSN, RN, FNP-C will be accepting patients at their clinic locations in California City, Tehachapi and Mojave. Medina will be caring for patients of all ages, providing well person visits, physicals and treating non-life-threatening ailments. She also cares for patients with acute and chronic conditions such as diabetes, hypertension and obesity.
“I chose family medicine as a specialty to provide the best patient care possible,” Medina said. “I hope to be able to make a difference in my patients’ lives.”
Medina received her associate degree in nursing from Antelope Valley College and then entered the graduate program at Palmdale Hospital receiving her bachelor’s degree in nursing from Chamberlain College of Nursing in Downer’s Grove, Ill. She received her master’s degree in nursing (MSN) from West Coast University in 2016. She is also board certified as a family nurse practitioner (FNP-C) by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.
“I love what I do because I get to connect with people on a daily basis,” she said. “I like to take a holistic approach to patient care, where we focus on mind, body and soul through a combination of medicine and lifestyle modifications.”
Medina and her husband moved to Tehachapi five years ago when she went to work at Tehachapi Hospital. She was hired as an Emergency Room RN when referred by a friend from nursing school.
The couple have a four-year-old daughter and four “fur babies.” Medina said she likes to read fantasy and romance novels, “stories you can get lost in.” She likes quilting and making jewelry, but loves scrapbooking. And then there is the 400-square-foot vegetable garden that she and her husband planted in their yard, which is full of zucchini, tomatoes, corn, chili peppers, lettuce, tomatillos and strawberries. They definitely live the healthy lifestyle she teaches.
