Library announces limited opening

At the end of February, the Tehachapi Library joined the rest of the Kern County Libraries in collecting books to help replenish those lost in the fire that destroyed the Porterville Library on Feb. 18. The first shipment was taken to Porterville in March before the COVID-19 shut-down. Books had been collected at both the Tehachapi Library and at Tehachapi City Hall. On Sept. 16, Veronica Wilson from the library and Key Budge from the City of Tehachapi, loaded up the remainder of the books collected and transported them to Porterville.

Wilson announced that all 12 branches of the Kern County Library will be reopening on Oct. 12, "In a limited capacity for purpose-driven appointments." The books for Porterville were being stored in space that would be needed for patrons. The library has currently been open only for curbside pick up and drop-off of books.
