Brite Lake is open for fishing. TVRPD's plan was to stock the lake this year with five hundred pounds of trout monthly beginning in January; however the level of the lake was too low.
The precipitation Tehachapi received during the winter raised the lake enough so that TVRPD was able to stock the lake twice in February so there is currently plenty of fish. Five hundred pounds of trout are planned to go into the lake every month through May depending on what the hatcheries have in stock and the temperature of Brite Lake. In order to introduce the fish, the lake must be below 52 degrees.
Fishing is free at Brite Lake; however, fishermen over 16 must have a current valid fishing license. Big 5 Sporting Goods is the place to purchase that license. Brite Lake has a $5 parking fee payable at the entry gate. There is an additional $5 fee for boat launching, also payable at the gate. Fees are waived for annual pass holders.
Brite Lake is currently open and taking reservations for camping. The campground now has 48 camping sites, however only two are available with water, electricity and sewer. There are 12 with water and electricity, while the remainder are dry camping only. Reservations are currently being taken between the hours of 10:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. seven days a week by calling (661) 221-2832.
Brite Lake is sporting many new changes beginning with the new pay-arm gate at the entrance. The staff has spent much time improving the fencing to add additional parking as well as removing fencing that was in the water creating a hazard for fishermen. They have redone the campsite numbering system, moved boulders and increased the cable for the dock allowing it to be raised and lowered with the lake water level.
There is no time like the spring to enjoy Brite Lake, located at 22902 Banducci Rd., Tehachapi. Make a plan to visit soon.
