The Tehachapi Warrior Football Pancake Breakfast, also known as the Ed Grimes Memorial Pancake Breakfast, named after the late Tehachapi Mayor Ed Grimes, is an annual kickoff to the 4th of July festivities. Pancakes, sausage, coffee and juice will be served starting at 7:30 a.m. in the southwest corner of Central Park. Breakfast tickets are only $5.
The event benefits the Tehachapi High School Warrior Football program in conjunction with the Tehachapi Warrior Booster Club to assist in raising funds for the upcoming season. Much of the money generated assists in equipment purchases, helmet certification and replacement and a variety of other costs for the football program. The breakfast items are donated by local businesses including Albertsons, Henry’s Café, Starbucks, McDonald’s and Red House BBQ, with volunteers cooking the morning of the event. The City of Tehachapi assists by covering the cost of the food booth for the day and the grills and griddles used to cook the day of the event.
This year, the Tehachapi Valley Recreation and Park District has included a pancake breakfast ticket in the price of admission to the All American 5K, with that portion being donated to the Warrior Football program. The $5 ticket price is very reasonable thanks to the generosity of sponsors, this allows the price to remain low and encourage ticket purchases and additional donations.
The breakfast has been a long tradition as part of the 4th of July in Tehachapi. Ed Grimes, former Mayor and member of the Tehachapi Warrior Booster Club, was an advocate for the event, organizing ticket sales, early morning batter mixing and execution the day of the event. The pancake breakfast now bears his name as a sign of respect and gratitude for his many years of service up until his passing in 2018.
The Tehachapi High School football team and the Warrior Boosters invite you to come enjoy the event on Sunday, July 4th at Central Park. You can purchase a ticket in advance from a THS Warrior Football player, or show up the day of the event for on-site sales. All funds benefit the THS football team who will return to the field in 2021 after a COVID-19 cancellation in 2020. Their inability to fundraise over the last 18 months makes this year’s efforts even more important to ensure the players, coaches and staff are properly equipped for competition.
